This picture is a result of my inability to stop over-analysing children's entertainment.
You see, I think the fat controller might have been running some sort of steam-era cyborg program in order to create workers that do not need pay, rest or holidays. The books detail the failure of his railway company to subdue the human spirit. Even when these poor wretches are reduced to brains in jars, housed within the unyielding metal shell of a steam locomotive, forever doomed to traverse the same tracks without hope of freedom or change - even then, they manage to confound their masters.
Anyway, like I said, I tend to read too much in to things.

All copyrights are held by their owners, this image is just for fun.

The other two scientists.... they look like Dr Kliner and Eli Vance from Half life... was that the point?

Well, I always end up drawing or impersonating a scientist, it always ends up being Dr. Kliner/Dr. Bunsen. The other chap was supposed to be me but I don't mind being mistaken for Eli Vance, I just don't want to share his fate :)

It's a creepy concept, but it's not totally insane.
Oh wait, yes it is.
But I like it. The creativity, I mean, not Thomas being a cyborg. Next I suppose he'll transform into a robot and fight other robots.. :D

This picture looks...interesting, but I found a few flaws on it.
The first one is Thomas' side rods. They aren't attached to the wheels like that.
Second is the size of Thomas' splasher. In the show and the books it only came up to the top of his "neck", you could say.
Last, but most certainly not least, if those brains are there, how is the steam going to get out? The funnel is there to let the steam out, and with that glass containment case, the steam wouldn't get out, and the smokebox would be filled with hot steam that couldn't get out.

Re: Cybermen inspiration. Not really, just thinking too hard about things that are generally just accepted (similarly: if goofy is a dog, what is Pluto? Is there some sort of sub-dog/anthro-dog superiority sub-text there? I doubt it - they probably just thought funny dog was funny). You watch Thomas the tank engine but we just accept that these engines are alive with their cold, dead, grey faces. I'd like to know what was going through the Rev. Awdry's mind when he thought this stuff up.
One thing I am surprised at is that there is an active Thomas the tank engine fan base here. Hi!

"You will be upgraded. Upgrading is compulsory." Sorry, I couldn't' resist making that joke in this. XD

Anyways, this has to be an eerie, yet outstanding Thomas fanart I've seen!

BTW, was this inspired by the Cybermen from Doctor Who, or no?
